A rule updating the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations was sent to the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) last week, signaling the rule will be released publicly in the near future. Regulatory review is expected to take a full 90 days.
The final rule will address: Final breach notification; Final HIPAA enforcement; and Implementation of HIPAA privacy and security changes that were mandated in the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act.
