Beatitudes of Phoenix, AZ has pioneered a Palliative Care for Advanced Dementia: A Model Teaching Unit training program, and has now partnered with the Alzheimer's Association to test the program for late state dementia residents of three NY nursing homes as well as three hospices. The United Hospital Fund is providing a grant of $75,000 to the Alzheimer's Association, New York City chapter, for the research project.
The program focuses on providing comfort, or palliative care, with the goal of understanding and treating both physical and psychic pain.
