NAC Not Subject to Home Care Aide Pre-Approved 5 Hour Safety & Orientation Requirements

Applicability of Orientation and Safety Training to NACs:  (**Short version: NACs IN ASSISTED LIVING/NON-MEDICARE CERTIFIED HOME CARE/HEALTH  DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE THE 5 HOURS OF ORIENTATION/SAFETY TRAINING THAT ARE REQUIRED OF HOME CARE AIDES**)

Per the Department of Health, with DSHS/ADSA carbon copied, in an email to Aging Services of Washington and dated January 12, 2012 “Initiative 1163, Section 105 states that “the following long-term care workers are not required to become a certified home care aide pursuant to this chapter.”

"Under subsection (1), it lists registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, certified nursing assistants or persons who are in an approved training program for certified nursing assistants, along with other exemptions; RCW 74.39A.073 describes all 75 hours of training. Therefore, this section exempts these exempt long-term care workers from all training as well as the certification."
