Report on Not -for-Profit Jobs Just Released

A report on year-to-year changes in employment in the not-for-profit sector was released January 18, 2012.  Based on Bureau of Labor Statistics data, it covers the decade between 2000-2010.

The report makes five major points:

1. U.S. nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations are major employers;
2. Nonprofit organizations have been major job creators;
3. Nonprofits held the fort for the nation on job growth during the recent recession;
4. The rate of nonprofit job growth has slowed as the country’s economic crisis has worn on;
5. Nonprofits are facing increased competition from for-profit firms.
