CMS announced in October and again Dec. 2 the coming availability of an Independent Informal Dispute Resolution (IIDR) process for standard or complaint surveys resulting in the imposition of FEDERAL civil monetary fines. State-imposed fines will not be disputable with this new program, but will instead continue utilizing the existing IDR structure. For more information, contact Bonnie Blachly at Aging Services.
DSHS will be contracting with an entity outside of their agency to conduct what are known as IIDRs in the state of Washington. Implementation is scheduled to begin January 1, 2012 and will only be applicable to those instances of new citations issued on or after that date.
CMS has rarely imposed federal civil monetary fines in Washington state; in fact, the first and only fines were issued this year, 2011.
