- FBI fingerprint background checks beginning January 1, 2012;
- New training requirements beginning January 7, 2012; and
- Home care aide certification process beginning January 7, 2012.

It is highly unlikely the legislature will overturn
Initiative 1163 to de-implement or delay its implementation.Certain long term care workers within boarding homes (assisted living), adult family homes and non-Medicare certified home health/care agencies are required to comply.
The department will be bearing the cost of the one-time only FBI background checks as they do with regular state background checks. Processes and forms will be available online within the next 2 weeks – I will alert you when that information is posted.
The increased requirements for Continuing Education hours (10 to 12) take effect July 1, 2012. There is a process for birthday-to-birthday timeframes – I will forward once it is posted online On-the-job training will be allowed to contribute to the 70 hours of basic training requirement, up to a maximum of 12 hours, beginning July 1, 2012. This, as all other curriculum, must be pre-approved by the department. I will forward forms, processes, etc. once they are available.
Aging Services of Washington is working with our vendors and partners, including Silver Chair, to facilitate their in-service and CE curriculum and trainer approvals with DSHS in order to minimize your compliance challenges.
