Senior caregivers who are not traditionally trained get help from new senate bill.
On Tuesday, Senator Herb Kohl (D-WI) introduced the “Strengthening Services for America's Seniors Act.” The bill is co-sponsored by Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) and has been referred to the Senate HELP Committee. The bill offers assistance to informal caregivers such as family members, volunteers and others who provide care for the elderly. Benefits include education and training, legal and financial planning, transportation and other supported services that help caregivers with the many complications that can arise from caring for someone around the clock. The bill creates a Congressional Advisory committee tasked with conducting a study to assess, coordinate and improve legal assistance activities for seniors and their caregivers.
