The time is now to be communicating to our state's congressional delegation that 'Enough Is Enough' when it comes to contemplated Medicare cuts in continuing federal budget discussions. The Super Committee has limited remaining time for deliberations; Washington state's delegation must be pressed to influence their decision making by making real the implications of such fiscal policy changes on Washington's seniors and those who provide their care. Seniors who rely on Medicare live in the very same communities as do our elected U.S. Senators and Representatives; the financial and social health of those communities themselves is at risk with further Medicare cuts to Nursing Homes.
Nursing homes have been significantly, and somewhat routinely, impacted by key policy changes and the implementation of Medicare reimbursement reduction strategies over the past two years, and collectively we must now say, forcefully, "STOP. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH."
Further cuts will not only create hardship for the frailest elders, but their families, direct care workers and other professionals and providers who care for them. Not-for-profit organizations, who routinely invest more resources in staffing and other elements of quality care, stand to be the most severely affected by further Medicare reductions.
