The King County Housing Authority is the latest housing and services provider to partner with a Canadian firm to retrofit their apartments with safer stovetops. Safe-T-element is a retrofit, cook-top technology that reduces the high-end cooking temperature on a coil type of electric range. It can also be purchased with new stove units. The Housing Authority received a Homeland Security grant of $380,000 to retrofit 2,000 units. They will be working with the King County Fire & Life Safety Association in their efforts.
