FMAP Extension in Question

We urge your immediate contact with Senators Murray, Cantwell and your Congressional  Representative regarding the extension of the increased federal Medicaid match (FMAP) through June 30, 2011. (Find contact information at the link below)

Leadership has been unable to get the FMAP extension bill to a vote; the outlook for an extension of the FMAP past December 1, 2010 is uncertain. Our state has booked about $ 480 million in its 09-11 budget assuming these monies would be extended. If Congress fails to pass the FMAP extension we will likely see severe cuts, effective January 2011, to long term care programs which provide essential care to our most vulnerable citizens - the aged and disabled. Your support is urgently needed.

For a reminder of the ‘numbers’: The current “enhanced” FMAP (63% / 37%) terminates Dec 31, 2010. Effective Jan. 2011, if the six month extension is not adopted, the FMAP will revert to the 50% / 50% in Washington state.

We should thank Senators Cantwell and Murray for their recent vote to support the FMAP extension to states but ask both them and your Representative for their specific support of the FMAP extension through June 30, 2011.
