Caregiver Training rule-making underway

Aging Services of Washington is participating in the Dept. of Health's rule making work to implement the certification requirements for boarding and adult family home caregivers, or home care aides, per Initiative 1029 and session law as passed by the legislature in 2009. We have submitted amendments to both rule drafts to date, particularly in the area of ensuring caregivers hired PRIOR to January 1, 2011 do not have to COMPLETE their training prior to that date but are only subject to the existing requirements as of December 31, 2010.

DSHS is also in the rule-making stage of implementing the initiative, with their role as detailing the content and learning outcomes.
